september jams

somehow september is already here which means it's time for a playlist refresh. as always, i'm a bit of a mess when it comes to deciding what kind of music it is that i feel like listening during the day. how are you supposed to be expected to listen to the same genre when you wake up and put on music, listen on the long ride from ocean beach to work & back plus all day at work? not to mention that i sometimes am actually home to cook dinner so i'll need music for that + what if i clean my room or want to draw at night? these things all need soundtracks. what we have here is more of a hodgepodge of the songs i'm addicted to this month.

feel like i should call out three specific songs on here - "last straw" by jack's mannequin - not at all relevant in this day and age considering he's andrew mcmahon in the wilderness now but it's an oldie and a goodie so it goes on the playlist. "rise up" by andra day because my yoga teacher often times plays it in our class and it helps me drop right into the movements so why not listen to it all the time? maybe that'll remind me to pay attention to my breath during the day when i'm not in class... that's the goal. not normally my type of music but she sure does have a beautiful voice. last but certainly not least, "over everything" by the DUH duo, courtney barnett & kurt vile -- how in the hell did this collaboration not happen sooner?!? just makes so much sense, i feel like an idiot that I didn't realize it sooner that a collaboration between these two needed to be a thing. oh and bonus - BECK THOUGH! the new jams are fiyah.

anyway, what's on this playlist will probably grow as the month goes on so happy listening, ya'll.
